Train for the 2026 BMW Dallas Marathon or Half with a plan your body can absorb
The marathon, half marathon and 50K begin Sunday, December 13, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. from Dallas City Hall Plaza. If knee, Achilles, calf, hip or foot symptoms are changing your training, Argan can examine the problem on an agreed route, at your home or gym, or online when hands-on testing is not the part that will change the plan.
Argan Physiotherapy is not affiliated with or endorsed by the BMW Dallas Marathon or its organizers. Confirm all race details on the official event website.
The date is fixed. Your training plan should still move.
A race deadline creates urgency, but it does not turn every missed workout into a crisis. The plan should protect the adaptations that matter and remove work that is no longer earning its cost.
The official event page lists the full marathon at 26.2 miles, the half at 13.1 miles and the 50K at 31 miles. The races begin and end in downtown Dallas, with the finish at Dallas City Hall Plaza.
The useful training question is not simply whether you can finish one long run. It is whether the weekly work is building enough durable distance without leaving you less capable for the next key session.

Three numbers should shape the final training block
The official page sets the distances and a course-split deadline. Your plan has to respect the race demand, the course clock and the body you will bring to downtown Dallas that morning.
Miles from downtown Dallas back to City Hall Plaza.
Miles, with the route continuing beyond the half split.
Mile marker listed with a 10:45 a.m. cutoff.
Race readiness is not one heroic long run. It is enough weekly distance, strength, fueling practice and symptom control to reach the course split with the correct race still in front of you, then keep moving well after the field separates.
The race-block decision
“The goal is not to prove you can survive today’s run. It is to preserve enough training continuity to arrive healthy in December.”How a late-cycle plan should think
When a small pain becomes a training decision
A symptom that stays stable, leaves your stride unchanged and settles predictably may allow a modified run. A symptom that becomes sharper, more focal, more swollen or more disruptive as the run continues is giving a different message. So is a new limp or pain that changes normal walking the next morning.
The evaluation should end with a decision you can use: keep the session, shorten it, replace it, move it or pause it for medical review. That is more useful than being told to rest without a return plan or being cleared because one clinic test looked normal.
Build the remaining block in the right order
The exact weeks depend on your current mileage and injury status. The order stays useful because it keeps basic durability ahead of race-specific stress.
- 01 Settle on an easy-running baseline you can repeat
- 02 Rebuild the long run without chasing missed mileage
- 03 Keep strength work for the calf, knee, hip and trunk
- 04 Add race-pace work only when easy mileage is steady
- 05 Rehearse fueling, clothing and the planned morning routine
- 06 Reduce volume before race day while keeping familiar rhythm
Do not pay back missed miles in one week. Fitness is built by work you can absorb, not by a spreadsheet total that ignores the next morning.
Use the setting that answers the race question
A race goal involves more than a treatment table. We can watch the pattern under real running load, build strength where the plan is thin and keep the week moving when an in-person visit is not necessary.
An agreed route or track
Compare easy pace, race pace, hills, turns and the point where your stride begins to change.
Your home
Use a treadmill or nearby route, then build the treatment and home program around equipment you actually have.
Your gym
Train force and endurance without turning every weakness into more running mileage.
Online or at work
Review the week, video, symptom response and progression when the decision does not require hands-on testing.
Questions before the BMW Dallas Marathon and Half
Race facts and practical decisions for an interrupted training block.
When are the 2026 BMW Dallas Marathon and Half Marathon?
The official event page lists Sunday, December 13, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. at Dallas City Hall Plaza. The expo is scheduled for Friday, December 11 and Saturday, December 12. Confirm every detail with the organizer before race day.
Is it too late to start physical therapy close to the race?
It is not too late to make a better decision. The closer the race is, the less time there is to build new capacity, so the work shifts toward diagnosis, load management, preserving fitness and deciding whether the current goal remains realistic.
What should I do after missing a long run?
Do not automatically move it into the next open day or add the lost distance to the following week. Look at why it was missed, what the body can absorb now and which remaining sessions carry the most value.
Can I race with knee or Achilles pain?
Sometimes symptoms can be managed with a modified plan. Sometimes racing would be a poor decision. The location, severity, gait change, swelling, focal tenderness, response to loading and medical history matter more than the diagnosis label alone.
Does the evaluation include gait analysis?
It can. Video is useful when it helps explain a symptom or test a change. We compare it with strength, mobility, training history, pace and fatigue instead of treating one frame as the diagnosis.
Can we meet on a Dallas running route?
Yes, when an agreed outdoor setting is practical and appropriate. We can also start at your home, gym or office, or use an online visit when the plan can be reviewed remotely.
Do I need a referral to schedule?
You do not need a referral to schedule an evaluation in Texas. Texas permits eligible physical therapists to begin treatment without a referral for up to 30 consecutive days. We will tell you before continued care requires one, and insurance or surgical requirements may be different.
How does payment work?
Argan is a private-pay practice. Payment is due at the visit. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and we can provide a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

Tell us which run changed first
Send the race distance, your current weekly mileage, the last session that felt normal and the exact point where the problem appears. We will test what matters, protect the work you have already earned and build the next part of the block around what your body can absorb now.
